Mystery Odor Permeating Delaware County
Yet again, a mysterious odor is wafting through Delaware County, leaving officials and residents stumped on what is causing the smell.
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Once again, Delaware County is under an apparent cloud of a mysterious odor, according to officials and residents.
Delaware County Emergency Services said in an announcement that an odor has been detected in the county, as well as in Salem, New Jersey.
And also yet again, the origin of the smell is eluding officials.

"At this time, neither County is aware of the source," Delaware County Emergency Services said. "The Wide Area Odor Investigation Task Force is collecting air samples and wind speed/direction. No hazardous levels have been detected."
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and in Delaware and New Jersey are also investigating the odor source.

Social media users in Sharon Hill, Aston, Haverford, Darby and other locations reported the smell, with at least one saying it is causing headaches.
Some described it as chlorine like, something burning, and paint thinner.
Delaware County Emergency Services said anyone who suspects they detect a hazardous gas should call 911. However, those who believe the odor is more of a nuisance than a hazard should report it to the DEP online here.
Another instance of a mystery odor occurred in March this year and in October 2019.
