Safely Trick-or-Treat in Springfield
Police and Board of Commissioners share Halloween safety tips.

As the nights get cooler and the leaves start falling, Halloween begins to approach in Springfield Township.
The Oct. 31 holiday falls on a Wednesday this year. While the evening of ghosts and gouls is fun for all ages, kids safely trick-or-treating is the number one priority for the Springfield Township Police Department.
At the Springfield Township Commissioners meeting Oct. 9, the police shared some safety instructions for residents.

"Halloween decorations are going up all over town. In preparation for Oct. 31, the Police Department would like to offer a few tips for a safe night of trick-or-treating," Board of Commissioners President Jeff Rudolph (5th Ward) said.

1. Stay in a groups, with smaller children going out with adults.
2. Trick-or-treat in neighborhoods children are familiar with.
3. Never enter strangers' homes without parental permission.
4. Make sure reflective clothing is worn or light-up items are carried.
5. Try to cross streets at corners.
6. Check candy wrappers before eating.
