Slinky Getting Commemorative Marker In Delco Birthplace

The iconic Slinky toy was created in Clifton Heights, and a special marker will be unveiled there Aug. 30 to honor the toy's inception.

CLIFTON HEIGHTS, PA — Everyone loves a Slinky, especially those in Delaware County as it is home to the iconic toy. And the public is invited to celebrate its creation with a commemorative marker in Clifton Heights.

Nearly 75 years ago in Clifton Heights Richard and Betty James invented the mesmerizing and magical Slinky toy.

To celebrate the decades of fun Slinky has provided, Alex Brands, Inc. and the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission will unveil a commemorative roadside marker in Slinky’s birthplace at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 at 2 W. Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights.

The celebration coincides with National Slinky Day, an annual celebration of all things Slinky.

The event will feature light refreshments after the commemoration.

In addition to local dignitaries and historians, the James’ three children will also be on-hand and available for photos, as well as representatives from Alex Brands, Inc. who acquired the brand in 2012 and continues to manufacture the classic toy in Pennsylvania to this day.
