Springfield Crime Blotter: Fighting, Thefts, Money Scam, More

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Springfield Police issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.
Incidents in the blotter occurred between March 8 and March 14.

March 8 at 1357 hrs.
A 60-year-old female from Upper Darby was taken into custody for stealing over $54 worth of household items from the Giant 700 block West Sproul Road. She was released, and charges for Retail Theft will be filed.
March 8 at 2:59 p.m.
A resident of the 200 block South Highland Avenue reported his Mongoose bike stolen from the front porch.

March 9 at 9:47 a.m.
Target security at the mall reported a male subject had left the store with several electric toothbrushes for which he did not pay. Responding officers found the subject in the rear of the mall property and took him into custody. The male possessed a quantity of marijuana and was also found to be the same subject who had stolen from Target on prior occasions. A 39-year-old man from Pitman, New Jersey, was charged with Retail Theft and drug offenses and held for arraignment.
March 9 at 6:22 p.m.
Ofc. Bergman came upon a crash on the 600 block Baltimore Pike. Investigation of the one of the drivers found that he possessed heroin and drug paraphernalia and was intoxicated. The driver, 33, of Upper Chichester, was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was released, and charges for DUI and drug offenses will be filed.
March 10 at 12:25 p.m.
A male subject scammed employees at Five Below 900 block Baltimore Pike after purchasing $7 worth of merchandise and receiving change, he claimed he had used a $100 bill for the purchase. He left with over $90 in change before employees realized he had not used a $100 bill. Det. McNeely is investigating.
March 10 at 4:55 p.m.
Officers responded to Target 800 block Baltimore Pike to look for a male who had just stolen over $500 worth of merchandise. Officers located the male near a bus stop on Baltimore Pike and watched him dispose of a backpack into a trash can. The male was questioned, and the backpack was found to contain stolen merchandise from Target. Target employees reported the same male had stolen previously, and the male was found to have an active arrest warrant from Delaware County for Retail theft. Vincent Conaway, 41, of Upper Darby, was taken into custody and transported to Delaware County Prison. Charges for Retail Theft were filed.
March 13 at 10:22 p.m.
While on patrol, Officers observed a disturbance involving multiple people congregating outside Saxer’s Tavern 100 block Saxer Avenue. A group was attempting to control a male who was acting disorderly. The male was stopped by officers near Powell Rd. and found to be intoxicated. A 21-year- old man from Springfield was taken into custody and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Drunkenness. He was later turned over to family.
March 13 at 4:28 p.m.
Officers responded to the Urban Air business 1200 block East Woodland Avenue for a report of a fight. They identified four subjects, two juveniles and two adults, who had been involved in a physical altercation outside the bathroom with two other subjects. It was learned that the four subjects struck the two subjects with their hands after a disagreement inside the bathroom. The two suffered minor injuries. Investigation is continuing, and charges will be filed.
March 14 at 3:17 a.m.
Officers responded to a house on the 300 block Powell Road for a report of an unknown subject trying to enter. They found a male outside highly intoxicated and lost from a gathering on a nearby street. A 37-yearr-old man from Clifton Heights was taken into custody and charged with Public Drunkenness. He was later released to family.
