Springfield Crime Blotter: Jewelry Theft, Car Break-Ins, Drugs

Police said a man ran out of Kay's Jewelers with stolen necklaces Saturday. See details of this and other incidents here.

SPRINGFIELD, PA — Police in Springfield issued their weekly crime blotter Monday.

Incidents in the blotter occurred between May 10 and May 16.

May 10 at 1:19 p.m.
Officers responded to the Cutler Plaza, 100 block of Baltimore Pike, to investigate a vehicle which was driven into the building. It was found the vehicle had struck the front of the Slack’s Hoagie Shack building. The driver was located and found to be intoxicated. It was learned he had discarded a bag containing drugs in a trashcan inside one of the businesses. The 39-year-old male from Morton was taken into custody and submitted to a blood test. He was later released to family, and charges for DUI are pending.

May 11 at 8:31 p.m.
A resident on the 600 block of Hawarden Road reported eggs were thrown at the front door of the house and at his vehicle.

May 13 at 2:06 p.m.
A vehicle parked in the Springfield Square South parking lot, 1000 block of Baltimore Pike, had its catalytic converter removed. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

May 13 at 4:30 p.m.
A person who had parked her vehicle at the Michael’s Arts and Crafts, 600 block of Baltimore Pike, reported returning to her vehicle and finding the catalytic converter had been removed from the vehicle. Det. McCarthy is investigating.

May 14 at 12:07 p.m.
A resident on the 200 block of North Rolling Road reported seeing the dome light on inside her vehicle parked outside. When she checked, she observed a male inside rummaging through the vehicle. The male fled on a bicycle.

May 14 at 11:15 a.m.
A resident reported his Beastmode bicycle was stolen as he played basketball at Williams Park, Powell Road, on May 13 at about 5 p.m.

May 14 at 4:41 p.m.
A resident of the unit block South Brookside Road reported his Haro bike stolen from the front porch sometime overnight.

May 15 at 2:10 p.m.
Employees at Kay’s Jewelers at the mall reported that while assisting a male subject looking at necklaces, the male grabbed the necklaces and ran out of the mall. He got into a vehicle and fled the area. Sgt. J. DiTrolio is investigating.

May 15 at 5:42 p.m.
A 14-year-old female from Parkside was taken into custody after Macy’s security reported she stole over $220 worth of Polo and Tommy Hilfiger underwear as well as kitchen utensils. The female was turned over to family, and charges for Retail Theft are pending.

May 15 at 9:39 p.m.
A resident reported he had locked his bike to a fence on the high school property, 200 block of South Rolling Road, at about 6:30 p.m. while he played on the fields. Later he found the bike lock had been cut and the bike stolen. The bike is a silver colored SE DJ Ripper.

May 16 at 6:55 p.m.
A customer at the Springfield Mall who was there to pick up a friend reported that while waiting inside her vehicle and parked in a space in the rear, she observed a male pull in next to her. She observed the male staring at her, and reported he exposed himself to her and masturbated. She said she moved her vehicle to a different area, and the male attempted to park next to her again. When he saw her taking a picture of him, he drove out of the area. Sgt. J. DiTrolio is investigating.
