Springfield Getting $2M In Water Main Improvements

The major water main replacement project is affecting several roads in the township and it is expected to be completed in late 2018.

SPRINGFIELD, PA – Aqua Pennsylvania announced that $14.1 million in infrastructure improvement projects are currently underway in Delaware County, and Springfield Township is getting a cut of the improvement.

The projects will increase service reliability, reduce the potential for discolored water and improve firefighting capabilities in the area.

In Springfield Township, crews have recently begun working on a $2 million project to replace the existing 24-inch cast iron transmission main with 7,181 feet of 24-inch ductile iron main.

With project completion expected in late 2018, work is taking place on the following streets:

  • Sproul Road between W. Thomson Avenue and Kennerly Road
  • Kennerly Road between Sproul and Vernon roads
  • Vernon Road near Kennerly Road

Also in Springfield Township, crews are at work on a $1 million project to install 4,065 feet of 6-and 8-inch ductile iron mains to replace the existing aging mains.

The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2018 and is taking place on the following streets:

  • Meetinghouse Lane between W. Springfield and S. State roads
  • Buttonwood Drive and W. Springfield Road between Meetinghouse Lane and S. State Road
  • Hilltop Road between Meetinghouse Lane and Buttonwood Drive
  • Curtis Road between Buttonwood Drive and W. Springfield Road

Areas of Marple, Upper Darby, Middletown, Tinicum, and Nether Providence township, as well as Prospect Park and Norwood boroughs are also being targeted by Aqua's project.

These main replacements are part of Aqua’s nearly $60 million capital program for Delaware County in 2018, and Aqua plans more than $227 million across Pennsylvania this year. Aqua Pennsylvania invested $225 million in similar projects in 2017.
