Springfield Schools Closing Monday For Long-Term Closure Planning
The district will plan academic programming for students in the event of a possible, extended closure due to a coronavirus outbreak.
SPRINGFIELD, PA — The Springfield School District said it will be closed Monday, March 16 for a professional development day.
Superintendent Anthony Barber said in a letter to the community that schools will be closed to student so faculty and staff can plan academic programming for students in the event of a possible, extended closure due to a community outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
Barber said the district has not had any confirmed cases or exposure to confirmed cases in its boundaries.

While students will not have school Monday, all after-school activities and sports for grades nine through 12.
There is no change to the school calendar with Monday's closure.

Busing will be provided for all non-Springfield School District schools
"We will continue to review information from the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Please view our Pandemic Action Plan below," Barber said. "We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause our families. One presumed case of novel coronavirus is in Delaware County. Officials said the patient is a woman who recently traveled to an area of the country where coronavirus, known as COVID-19, is present. The case was not spread through the local community.
She is self quarantined in her home.
