Two Delco Students Honored By AAA For Safety Patrol

Two Delaware County elementary students are among 11 outstanding safety patrol members throughout the Philadelphia region who were honored recently by AAA Mid-Atlantic and The Mid-Atlantic Foundation for Safety and Education, AAA said.

The students were honored as Outstanding AAA School Safety Patrol Members for the 2016-2017 school year.

Nhaomi Lartey from Ardmore Avenue School in the William Penn School District and Michael Tully from Garrettford Elementary School in Upper Darby School District were among the standout youths

All winners were honored at an event in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. Each student received a Visa Gift Card and a plaque in recognition of their accomplishments, AAA said.

Here's what AAA had to say about the honor:

"As school-age leaders in traffic safety, patrol members teach other students about traffic safety on a peer-to-peer basis. They also serve as role models for younger children. Patrols complete training in traffic safety so they can protect students from the hazards of crossing roads and highways on their way to and from school; assist bus drivers in safely transporting students to and from school; teach fellow students about traffic safety; and serve other leadership functions under the direction of school officials."

• Brianna Gillio – Hillcrest Elementary School – Council Rock School District
• Sophia Layer – McDonald Elementary School – Centennial School District
• Sarah O’Neill – Oxford Elementary School – Pennsbury School District
• Nhaomi Lartey – Ardmore Avenue School – William Penn School District
• Michael Tully - Garrettford Elementary School – Upper Darby School District
• Dylan Pachik – Paul V. Fly Elementary School – Norristown Area School District
• Cooper Francis Paule – Simmons Elementary School – Hatboro-Horsham School District
• Joselyn Sanchez – Lewis Elkin Elementary School - Philadelphia School District
• Julia Thomson – St. Laurentius School – Archdiocese of Philadelphia
