4 People Hurt in Route 222 Crash

Upper Macungie Police say three-car crash sends four people to the hospital.

Four people were injured Monday night in a three-car crash on Route 222 in Upper Macungie, township police said.

According to police, the accident happened at 7 p.m. when Emily Spitzenberger, 19, of West Grove, tried to make a left turn from Route 222 onto Independent Road.

Police say her car turned into the path of another car, driven by Richard Kuscan, 57, of Mertztown.

Kuscan's Hyundai hit Spitzenberger's Honda, and then continued south on Route 22, colliding with a third car, driven by David Johnson, 44, of Breinigsville.

Police said Spitzenberger and her two passengers were both hospitalized, as was Kuscan, who complained of chest pain following the crash. They were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by Cetronia Ambulance.
