Allentown Chief Becoming Lehigh County Detective

Allentown police Chief Joseph Hanna will join the Lehigh County district attorney's office as a detective following his retirement later this month.

Hanna, 57, has been serving as Allentown's chief since September, following the retirement of Chief Roger McLean. It's a job he'll hold until the city's new chief, Joel F. Fitzgerald Sr., takes office.

“I am pleased that someone of Joe Hanna’s caliber has agreed to work as a county detective and will continue to serve the residents of Lehigh County as well as he served the citizens of Allentown for 34 years,” District Attorney James B. Martin said in a news release.

Hanna said in the release that he's looking forward to being an investigator again. During his time on the Allentown force he served in numerous capacities, including nine years with the criminal investigations division.

He is due to start his new job Dec. 23, the news release says.
