Keeping your child busy and out of trouble is a daunting task, especially if you work full-time and have multiple kids. Many parents have struggled with how to keep their kids occupied in a fun and educational way, especially in the summertime when school’s out. There are many different activities available for your children, of any age, to experience. Here are some ideas of activities and events for you and your children to look into joining.

Elementary & Middle School

One of the best resources for events for the young ones is a public library. Whether you go to the Parkland Library or any other public library, there are always events for children to enjoy. At the Parkland Community Library, there are events such as Read to the Pups, where children get to practice their reading skills while interacting with puppies, movie nights, and arts and crafts available throughout the year. For the older kids, there are different book clubs and more hands-on events for them to enjoy, like doing a science experiment or having a picnic. One activity that may be overlooked getting your child to volunteer at the library. At the Parkland Library, children need to be entering the eighth grade to apply to become a volunteer, but it’s an excellent way for your child to get some volunteer/work experience while getting involved with the community. Take a look at your local library to see just what they have to offer (it’s probably free, too).

High School

High school age kids are a bit tougher to get involved in various events throughout the entire year. However, there is a local non-profit organization that helps keep teens occupied and engaged when they need it the most. Livin The Dream provides high schoolers with a safe place to go on Friday and Saturday nights for fun activities that keep them engaged. This organization provides free events and activities for teens to enjoy to ensure that they are spending their time on things that will help them rather than harm them. There are numerous events held throughout the Allentown, PA area for teens to attend. Eventually, Livin The Dream plans to build their own facility that can be utilized to create more events for students to enjoy.
