Your Weekend: The Angel 34 Bike Ride and Dorney's Halloween Haunt

Celebrate Harvest Weekend on the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail in Breinigsville, visit Grim's Greenhouse for the Fall Festival, take in Youth Night at the Parkland High School football game or attend Community Day/Yard Sales at two local churches.

This weekend, after a bout of mid-summer heat and humidity during the week, is expected to feature October-like temperatures with sunny skies and highs in the high 60s and lower 70s, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

It's great weather for fall sports, festivals, apple picking or other outdoor activities.

Here's what's happening in and around Upper Macungie this weekend: 

  • The Parkland School District is closed Friday in observance of Yom Kippur.
  • Youth Night is on tap Friday night when Parkland High School hosts Northampton in a Lehigh Valley Conference football game at 7 p.m.
  • Halloween Haunt opens Friday at Dorney Park,  4000 Dorney Park Road, South Whitehall, with mazes, scary creatures and thrill rides. (Not for anyone under 13, according to the park website.) Park hours are 6 p.m. to midnight, Friday; 11 a.m. to midnight, Saturday.  Tickets begin at $30.99. For more information click on https://www.dorneypark.com/haunt
  • The second annual Valley Preferred Wheels for Hope race for the Angel 34 Foundation is scheduled for Saturday at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, 1151 Mosser Road in Breinigsville. Click here for more information and how to register. The Budweiser Clydesdales of Super Bowl commercial fame will appear from noon to 3 p.m.
  • A Church Parking Lot Yard Sale will be held Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 8227 Hamilton Blvd., Breinigsville from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • St. Anne's Episcopal Church, located at 6667 Lower Macungie Road in Trexlertown is holding a Community Day/Yard Sale at 8 a.m. Saturday.
  • Grim's Greenhouse, located at 9941 Schantz Road in Breinigsville, continues  its Fall Festival Saturday. Attractions include a new corn maze, apple picking, pumpkin picking, hay ride tours, a play corral, a hay slide, a tube slide, and later in the season, flashlight Maze Nights. Most attractions runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Maze admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children 3 through 12. There are also many homegrown farm market items and sweet treats to choose from.   • Clover Hill Winery in Breinigsville is celebrating its 28th anniversary through Sunday. Come in during that time and receive a 28% discount on all wines.
  • Clover Hill will partner this weekend for Harvest Weekend on the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail with Klein Farms Dairy & Creamery of 410 Klein Road, Easton. They will be on site to offer samples of a few of their delicious cheeses to pair with Clover Hill wines. They will also have their cheeses available for purchase.   • Vynecrest Winery in Breinigsville will partner with Pappy’s Orchard of Coopersburg, a fellow Pa. Preferred vendor from Macungie Farmers Market and pair their Gala apples with a Sugar ‘n Spice Caramel Apple Dip mix (locally made and sold at the winery) with their semi-sweet Riesling. Riesling is Vynecrest's Wine of the Month for September and priced at 10 percent off. They will offer free Winemaker Tours of the vineyard and wine cellar Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. 
    • The Parkland High School field hockey team will host Lehighton in a non-conference game Saturday at 10 a.m.
    • The Parkland girls soccer team will host Stroudsburg in a non-conference game Saturday at 10 a.m.
    • Want to play some miniature golf? Liber-Tee Miniature golf, at 7720 Adrienne Drive in Breinigsville, will be open all weekend. Play 18 holes and enjoy a hand-dipped ice cream cone afterwards. Call 610-391-1477 for specific hours.
    • Kids eat free Sunday at the Buckeye Tavern, located at 3741 Brookside Road in Macungie.
    • Entertainment abounds at the Molten Lounge at Sands Bethlehem .On Friday, The Aardvarks appear at 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, it's Digital Getdown at 9:30 p.m. On Sunday, Off The Road takes the stage at 8 p.m.
    • Everybody loves free. The nearby Allentown Art Museum is free to all on Sunday. Hours are noon to 4 p.m.
    • St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, at 1879 Applewood Drive in Orefield, holds Saturday Masses at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday Masses at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
    • Zeigels Union Church, located at 9990 Zeigels Church Road in Breinigsville, will hold Sunday School at 10 a.m. Worship services are at 8:30 a.m. and 11:05 a.m.
