How to Declutter Your Home for the Next Chapter in Your Life

Breathe Easier with Help from Home Organization Expert Jill Goldman

When Jill Goldman walks into your home for a spring cleaning she brings a dozen years of experience, a passion for helping people, and stellar organizational skills.

Goldman, of Organizetoolive.com, has adapted her organizing, sorting, and decluttering techniques to assure the health and safety of her clients during COVID-19 and is the go-to home and office organizer in Suburban Philadelphia.

"I am helping people get ready for a move, make more room, reimagine their space, and get themselves ready for the next phase of their lighter and more organized lives," Goldman explains. "I am totally customer service based and my motto is: 'I am here to help you!' "

These clients come from around Philadelphia's suburbs, (*including Willow Grove, Huntingdon Valley, Chestnut Hill, Jenkintown, Richboro, Newtown, Wyndmoor, and more).

And they are thrilled that Goldman has the ability to declutter a room or an entire home, packing a small or larger home for the big move, unpacking a new home or apartment, staging a home to be sold, and organizing and operating a successful estate sale. She also declutters garages, media rooms, basements, and outdoor spaces, and helps clients stage their homes listed for sale with their own furniture.

"Packing, donating, and moving can be overwhelming for the busy younger professionals and it can be extremely exhausting to the seniors that I work with," Goldman explains.

"Nobody really knows where to start and I hear over and over again from so many of my happy clients that they never could have done this without my help," she says. "I love to be the problem solver that everyone can count on."

The first step, explains Goldman, is to pick a room or area in the home and have bins ready and marked – keep, discard, donate, and sell. The key is to decide to start! When the sorting is done, Goldman takes all of the discarded items and items to be donated with her. She also helps her clients sell items of value that they no longer need or want.

Goldman has a cleaning crew on standby and works closely with the family-operated JDOGJunk Removal and Hauling for the removal of electronics and larger items like mattresses.

Among her many happy clients is 82-year-old Ann Waldman, who is moving from her Rydal home of 26 years into a smaller apartment in a retirement community and welcomed Goldman's customized approach to downsizing.

"Jill was really terrific. I had less than three months to get me out of this house and sell a lot of my furniture. She made my life easy," explained Waldman. "Jill was a calming influence, which I needed because I've been a wreck. I didn't know how much I had acquired and there was just so much stuff to deal with."

Not only did Goldman help her client sort, pack, and declutter, she made appointments with various people to buy Waldman's furniture and other items. "I highly recommend Jill. She can handle all of these chores and sell unwanted items. She was pleasant and reliable. She is really good at this and she is a truly nice person."

Another pleased client is the busy mom of three children, (now ages 13, 15, and 17), Christine Pugh, 49, of Wyndmoor, who for more than 10 years has kept her home well organized and clutter-free thanks to Goldman's irrepressible energy and hard work.

"What I appreciate first of all is how easy Jill is to work with, and that she works extremely hard," Pugh explains. "We don't have a lot of storage space, so I love that she comes up with solutions to declutter our house, such as building shelves for my closets."

While Pugh says she tends to dawdle when she is sorting items her children no longer need, Goldman is extremely fast, efficient, and thrives at organizing. "I can start her off in a room and walk away because I trust her. I also love that she takes my discarded items and drives away with them and I don't have to find a home for the items my children have grown out of."

Goldman is able to work with nearly any budget because her work is about helping people create order and space in their lives.

"I get so much satisfaction from knowing that I did a great job and that I leave individuals and families in such a good place," Goldman says. "My clients become like extended family members because we are together for a few weeks, and they call me again and again for their next project or move."
Her mission is simple and clear: "My approach to organizing is rooted in the practical and functional. I am dedicated to helping you bring simplicity and harmony into your life. Let me help you become organized. I am ready to get started!"

Jill Goldman's 7 Top Tips for Decluttering Your Life

1. Take a deep breath, or two or three.
2. If you haven't used an item for a year and it's in good condition, donate it.
3. Figure out what is trash, what is being donated, what is being sold, and what is staying. The more you overthink this, the more it will slow you down.
4. Now is the perfect time to give away clothing, toys, and household goods.
5. Once it's sorted it's time to get the bags of trash and donation items out of the house.
