A Man Embezzled $1 Million From His Willow Grove Employer: Feds

A man was sentenced to prison in federal court Friday after embezzling more than $1 million from a local business, authorities said.

WILLOW GROVE, PA — A Willow Grove man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of embezzling more than $1 million from his former employer in Willow Grove, federal officials announced Friday.

Duane Wilson, 66, of Southampton, will spend the next six months in prison, followed by six months of home confinement, the Internal Revenue Service said.

Wilson had previously pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return. He was employed by Valley Power in Willow Grove.

He owed $272,742 to the IRS in unpaid taxes, officials said.

“No matter the source, all income is taxable,” IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge Guy Ficco said in a statement. “There is no better time than tax season to remind the public that knowingly omitting income on a tax return is a felony; one that could result in jail time.”

US District Court Judge Joshua D. Wolson called it a "straightforward crime of greed."

Wilson will begin serving his sentence April 6.
