Montco's Third Mass Vaccine Site Will Not Open This Week

WILLOW GROVE, PA — Montgomery County's third community vaccine clinic in Willow Grove will not open up as planned this week in Willow Grove, officials said on Wednesday.

The site, first announced last week, will be located in a strip mall across the street from the Willow Grove Park Mall.

"Our team was optimistic that we would be able to open this site this week, but we just do not have enough vaccine to expand our operations right now," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said.

Arkoosh said she is hopeful that this will change in the coming weeks as the county receives more doses.

Once enough doses are received, it's hoped the site can vaccinate as many as 10,000 individuals per day; 5,000 for first doses, and 5,000 for second doses.

However, to start with, a more realistic expectation is closer to 1,000 or 500 a day, as supplies remain extremely short.

Arkoosh said that if the county's current allocation is roughly doubled, they'll have enough to open this site.

Future sites are being considered, and will open as more vaccine becomes available. Sites in the western part of the county, which is farther geographically from these first three sites, are in the works.

The county currently runs two mass vaccine clinics, at Norristown Area High School and Montgomery County Community College.
