PECO To Spend $1.8 Million To Remove Vegetation In Upper Moreland Area

PECO is investing $1.8 million in tree-trimming and vegetation removal to improve electric service around Upper Moreland.

UPPER MORELAND, PA — PECO will spend $1.8 million in a tree-trimming and vegetation-removal initiative in order to improve electric service in parts of Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Work is slated to take place in Hatboro, Horsham, Upper Moreland, and several part of central Bucks County, PECO said.

Around 244 miles of aerial electric lines will have the branches and vegetation growing around them trimmed. Service for around 22,000 customers will be improved thanks to the work, according to PECO.

“Vegetation growth causes about one-third of all electric outages,” said Dave Weaver, vice president of Technical Services, in a statement. “Our comprehensive vegetation management program is vital to safely keeping the lights on for our customers.”

PECO says their crews are trained in "arboricultural" techniques which take the health of the tree in question into account.
