Thanksgiving 2017: What's Open, Closed In The Upper Moreland Area

UPPER MORELAND, PA — It's almost time to sit down with the family and feast on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. While some people — including employees at some retail stores — will be working on the holiday, many area businesses and offices will be closed, giving workers a day off.

Here's list of what's open and what's closed in the local area.

• Post office: Closed
• Federal offices: Closed
• Local government: Closed.
• Montgomery County offices, including the circuit clerk's office, courts, health department and more will be closed on Thanksgiving
• Local schools: Closed
• Public libraries: Closed
• Banks: Closed
• Gas stations: Open

Supermarkets & Department Stores

Several supermarkets are open part of Thanksgiving Day for your last-minute shopping needs. And some departments open on Thursday evening to get a head start on Black Friday shopping.

Here's a list of some major chains with local branches and their Thanksgiving hours.

• Safeway: Stores will close at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Locations will return to regular hours on Friday, Nov. 24; some are open 24 hours a day, some are open from 5 a.m. to midnight daily.
• Whole Foods: Hours: 7 am-3 pm on Thanksgiving.
• ShopRite Supermarkets: Pennsylvania stores will be open on Thanksgiving.
• Acme Supermarkets: Open
• Giant: Open but hours will vary by location. Call ahead to be sure.
• Trader Joes: All stores closed on Thanksgiving.
• Fresh Market: Open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
• ALDI: All stores are closed on Thanksgiving.
• Sam's Club: All stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day.
• Target: Stores open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and close at midnight; stores re-open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday.
• Duane Reade: Stores open on Thanksgiving Day.
• Walgreens: Stores open on Thanksgiving Day.
• CVS: Stores open on Thanksgiving Day.
• Rite Aid: Some stores open Thanksgiving Day.
• Retail stores: Some will be closed, some — including area grocery stores — will be open. Walmart, for instance, will be open, but the deals don't start until 6 p.m. Other retailers have decided to take a stand against opening on Thanksgiving. Call ahead to make sure.
