Upper Moreland Gets $195K For Fair Oaks Park Improvement

The grant will help safeguard the Pennypack Creek watershed.

UPPER MORELAND, PA — Several projects aimed at improving communities across Montgomery County have been awarded $1.5 million in grants.

The projects address numerous aspects of the Montco 2040 plan, including walkabilty, bikeability, sidewalk connections, adaptation, and resiliency.

"These grants give our municipalities new opportunities to achieve the shared goals of the Montco 2040 plan," said Val Arkoosh, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, in a statement. "We are seeing a lot of wonderful ideas come out of this program, from expanding sidewalk gaps for pedestrians to improving water quality and reducing flooding in urbanized watersheds. These projects improve and enhance the high quality of life in the county,"

Upper Moreland has been awarded a $195,000 grant to build a bio-infiltration basin at Fair Oaks Park.

The basin will capture and retain stormwater runoff from a 47-acre area that has a history of flooding issues and impacts on the quality of the Pennypack Creek watershed.

Officials said that residents from around the area would benefit from the project, especially those at Robert Bruce Apartments.
