Girl Scouts of Southern Lehigh Celebrate World Thinking Day

Girl Scouts of Southern Lehigh Celebrate World Thinking Day

On February 22 of each year, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from 146 countries celebrate World Thinking Day. World Thinking Day shows support for girls as they travel internationally, connect with sister Girl Guides, and take action globally.

In Southern Lehigh, the Girl Scouts celebrated with the theme, “Girl Scouts in Wonderland”. They collected monetary donations in support of the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund, which supports international travel for Girl Scouts. They also collected donations of youth socks, which will be donated to a shoebox program as part of a Bronze Award Project.

With the help of the GSEP Fashion Patrol, scouts at the event made fleece octopus pets to give to a local children’s hospital, sewed busy lap blankets for Alzheimer patients, and made bags for walkers that will be donated to retirement homes. The girls broke a sweat with volunteers from Cross Fit Threefold in Coopersburg. Try Dye of Coopersburg provided instructions on how to tie dye pillow cases, which the girls made and took home. They learned about art and fashion design with Pamela Ptak from the Arts and Fashion Design Institute. They took time to S.W.A.P. (Share With A Pal) at lunch by exchanging small trinkets they made to promote friendship. Jeanne Haverhill, Miss Lehigh County High School 2016, spoke with the girls about B.R.A.V.E. (Be Respectful And Value Everyone) and the day ended with a “Grossology” presentation from The DaVinci Science Center.

Christi Delp, photographer, was there to take troop and individual photos and Trell Miller, Steeped Tea Consultant, donated flavorful tea bags for each scout to take home.

The Girl Scouts of Southern Lehigh would like to thank all of their program participants. Without you, all of this would not be possible. Join Girl Scouts today! Adults and girls are needed. Go to gsep.org for more information on how to become a volunteer.
