Police: Motorist in Upper Saucon Had 588 Cartons of Untaxed Cigarettes
A New York man has been charged with illegally possessing untaxed cigarettes in Upper Saucon.

A New York motorist carrying 588 cartons of untaxed cigarettes was stopped by police while heading eastbound on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon on Wednesday morning.
Imad Noman Said, 28, of Brooklyn, New York, was stopped in a rental car for a traffic violation around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to The Morning Call. Said granted the state trooper permission to search his vehicle, which revealed the cartons of cigarettes, The Morning Call said.
Said was taken into custody on charges of possession of untaxed cigarettes and failing to remain in his lane.

Said was transporting the cigarettes from Virgina, according to The Morning Call. Cigarettes in New York City have a tax of $5.85, compared to just 30 cents in Virginia, according to TaxFoundation.org.
Said was arraigned later in the day Wednesday and sent to Lehigh County Jail on $25,000 bail, The Morning Call reported.
