Solehi Named Project RED Signature District

Designation gives district access to online resources as well as implementation strategies for the district's 1:1 laptop program.

Southern Lehigh School District has been named one of the first 10 districts in the country to achieve "Signature School" status from Project RED  (Revolutionizing Education).

The district, which , will be able to use the project's resources to help roll out the schools 1:1 laptop program.

"It costs us nothing," said superintendent Leah Christman at the Aug. 27 meeting. "But [Project RED] will work with the district to provide professional development and make sure the implementation [of the 1:1 laptops] follows the research methods [shown to be successful in the study]. We will know by Sept. 6 if we're part of the top 20."

"I just want to say congratulations on that [designation]" said board member Corinne Gunkle. "I'm glad that we are getting into that sort of program and get to [roll out the technology] the right way."

According to Project RED's website, "[The project's] findings demonstrate that schools employing a 1:1 student-computer ratio and key implementation factors outperform other schools, and reveal significant opportunities for improving education return on investment [ROI] by transforming teaching and learning."
