Free Book Club at BCCC Starts Jan. 8

Bucks County Community College will kick off the 2015 Book Discussion Group on Jan.8. The year starts off with a discussion about The Cost of Lunch, Etc., Marge Piercy’s debut collection of short stories.

The free, informal gatherings are held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month during the academic year. The meetings are held at the college’s Newtown campus.

Other titles to be discussed include:

February 12 – Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

March 12 – Redeployment by Phil Klay

April 9 – The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown

May 14 – Stone Mattress by Margaret Atwood

June 11 – The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan

Literature professor Michael Hennessey organizes the meetings.

“There’s not much conflict over the titles we choose,” said Hennessey, who has led the group discussions for more than a decade. “We certainly often disagree about the value or worth of some titles and some characters, but it’s always a civil discussion.”
