UPPER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — If you were driving through Southampton Thursday night and thought you saw a man sleeping on the roof of a school, you weren't hallucinating.

Davis Elementary School Principal Andrew Doster made good on a promise to his students, camping out on the school's roof after they met, and exceeded, their goal on the school's Boosterthon fundraising drive.

The students raised more than $24,000, easily beating their goal of $20,000. And, true to his word, Doster headed to the school's roof to spend the night.

Throughout the evening, Doster got visits from students and others in the school community wishing him well — warm thoughts on a night when temperatures dropped down into the 20's.

"Mr. Doster, thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty for the kids," one parent wrote on a Facebook post from Centennial School District. "If you need anything just give a shout! I can send coffee, hot chocolate, thermos, blankets whatever if you need it!"

The Boosterthon program, which includes the Davis Dolphin Fun Run, encouraged students to raise money to support initiatives at the school. Over two weeks, students worked to seek donations from sponsors.

In past years, the school's kindergarten playground was funded through the fundraiser.
