UPPER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Roadwork on 2nd Street Pike in Upper Southampton is scheduled to start next week as part of a project to fix up nine miles of state highway in Bucks County.

The work is set to start Monday, Sept. 16, and continue through Monday, Sept. 30. On weekdays, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., there will be periodic lane closures on 2nd Street Pike (Rt. 232) between County Line Road and Bristol Road, PennDOT announced.

"Improvement projects like this are vital to the sustainability of our transportation network and the state’s overall infrastructure," Gov. Tom Wolf said in a news release. "Restoring these roadways in Bucks County will help residents go about their daily lives in a more efficient and safe manner."

Under the project, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the highway with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface, PennDOT said.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area because slowdowns could occur.
