Southampton Police Playing Defense On Super Sunday

Officers from Upper and Lower Southampton will be joining DUI patrols monitoring the roadways before, during and after the Super Bowl.

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Police from both Upper and Lower Southampton will be part of patrols looking for drunk drivers on the roads before, during and after the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The patrol is funded by a grant from the Bucks County DUI Task Force.

In Lower Southampton, enforcement details will be beefed up from 6-11 p.m. on Sunday, according to a news release.

In a similar release, Upper Southampton Police urged fans to be smart while enjoying the game.

"Super Bowl Sunday has grown into a national holiday of sorts with millions of fans celebrating the pinnacle of the National Football League's season with parties and adult beverages," the release reads. "Unfortunately, this celebration also leads to an increase in impaired driving and associated crashes. Fans need to be responsible and plan ahead for the big day so that their season doesn't end on a tragic note."

The Pennsylvania State Police Uniform Crime Reporting system shows that law enforcement officers across the state made over 3,400 impaired driving arrests during February 2018. Many of those arrests happened during Super Bowl weekend — Feb. 2-4.
