East Providence, Woonsocket, Awarded Nearly $2M To Help Those Most In Need
The cities will split more than $1.9 million in this round of Community Development Block Grant funding.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — East Providence and Woonsocket are getting federal dollars for new, affordable housing and projects to help the homeless, state lawmakers said. Rhode Island was awarded nearly $2.4 million to revitalize neighborhoods and increase affordable housing.
U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse announced the funding from several programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for Rhode Island.
East Providence and Woonsocket will split more than $1.9 million in this round of Community Development Block Grant funding. Communities are given federal money to tackle a wide range of neighborhood development needs under the program.

Making affordable housing more accessible will strengthen and stabilization communities, Reed said, and improve the economy.
