RI Coronavirus Cases Near 8,000; Trend Of Fewer New Cases

The number of new coronavirus cases continued to decrease this week as Gov. Gina Raimondo outlined her plan to reopen the state.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A promising trend in Rhode Island coronavirus cases continued Tuesday, as the state's Department of Health announced 218 new confirmed cases and six new deaths. The new data, for April 27, is the fourth consecutive coronavirus report with fewer cases than the previous day. The state has reported a total of 7,926 confirmed cases.

In addition, six new deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total for coronavirus fatalities to 239.

The latest figures represent a contrast to last week, when Rhode Island broke its record for most new cases on back-to-back days. The recent slide in new cases comes at a time when the state's testing apparatus is ramping up; More than 16,000 tests have been conducted since last week.
