Association of Migraine Disorders Goes Nautical with their Third Annual Mad Hatter Party
Event to Honor Sen. Whitehouse, Dr. Dale Bond and Advocate Katie Golden and Raise Money for Researchden

Join the Association of Migraine Disorders (AMD) for their third annual Mad Hatter Party and experience a wonderful evening of delicious food, beautiful waterfront views and two interesting musical acts, with a splash of migraine disease awareness and information thrown in. The fundraising and networking event will support the nonprofit’s contribution to the promising local neuroscientific community through a unique migraine research fellowship at the Brown Institute for Brain Science. The event will be held on Friday, June 23, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the historic Squantum Association in Riverside, R.I. and will feature
a special message from Cindy McCain – philanthropist, businesswoman and humanitarian, and the wife of United States Senator John McCain, and three champions in migraine research and advocacy will be honored.

There will be a series of short presentations by experts, followed by a panel discussion on “Hot Topics in Migraine” from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Robert Shapiro, M.D., well-known researcher from Vermont, will speak about securing funding for migraine research. Brian McGeeney, M.D. of Massachusetts, will discuss the use of marijuana for the treatment of migraine. Professor Lyn Griffiths, of Australia, will talk about her research on genetic testing for migraine. Richard Boles, M.D. and Medical Director of Courtagen Life Sciences Inc. will discuss his clinical research in genetic testing and migraine as well as Next Generation Sequencing and how it can provide custom reports to assist doctors in making the most informative treatment recommendations. Lastly, Anne St Goar, M.D., of Massachusetts, will speak about Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) for PTSD.
The dress code is business casual, but attendees are encouraged to wear nautical headwear. Hats of any description are welcome, though, and guests will have the opportunity to craft original hats with mixed materials at the venue.

U. S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is being acknowledged for his work as co-sponsor of CARA (Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act), which was the vehicle the carried the STOP Pain provisions so important to migraine research funding. He will receive the AMD Special Advocacy Award.
Dale Bond, Ph.D. will be recognized with the AMD Innovation Award for his work on the effects of obesity on migraine disease. Dr. Bond is an Associate Professor (Research) of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center of The Miriam Hospital and the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. A key focus of his research involves the relationship between migraine and obesity. His work has yielded advancements important for science and clinical care.
Katie Golden, who will be receiving the AMD Impact Award, has been a migraineur since the age of five and has made her personal mission to “Live a Fulfilled Life with Chronic Migraine and Pain.” Katie is passionate about education, breaking the stigma and raising awareness of the effects that migraine disease has on the person as well as those who love them. She is a writer for Migraine.com and created her own blog Golden Graine. She has also written for Pain Pathways Magazine, The INvisible Project, US Pain Foundation, and The National Pain Report. Katie is a member of the American Headache and Migraine Alliance (AHMA), National Headache Foundation and a proud Ambassador and Advocate for the US Pain Foundation.
