Barrington Revises State Of Emergency For Phase 2 Of RI Reopening

Barrington imposes a $500 fine for violations that include failure to wear a face mask in public, gathering in groups greater than 15.

BARRINGTON, RI — The Barrington Town Council has revised and extended its state of emergency declaration as the state moves into phase 2 of its economic reopening on Monday.

The latest order, which runs from June 1 through June 12, relaxes some restrictions from earlier stay-at-home order, but includes a potential $500 for violations such as failure to wear a face mask in public settings where at least 6 feet of social distancing cannot be maintained, and for gathering in groups of more than 15 people.

All playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed to the public. Organized youth sports should be limited to stable groups of 15. All businesses that are open are subjected to state restrictions.

Door-to-door sales or solicitations are also prohibited, and all businesses must post a copy of the state-of-emergency notice at the entrance of the premise.

The Barrington Police Department has authority to enforce the executive order.
