Barrington Town Beach Closed To Swimming
The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended closing the beach due to high bacteria levels.
BARRINGTON, RI — Barrington Town Beach is closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels, the Rhode Island Department of Health said Thursday afternoon. Health officials will continue to monitor bacteria levels in the water daily and the beach will likely reopen within a few days.
In Rhode Island, high bacteria levels and beach closures are usually caused by rain. High amounts of precipitation causes increased runoff from sewers and roads, which increases the amount of bacteria in the water.
"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season. The status of a beach may change on a daily basis," the department said in a release.
