Barrington Town Beach Declared Safe, Reopened To Swimming

Just one day after being closed due to high bacteria levels, Barrington Town Beach has been declared safe.

BARRINGTON, RI — Just one day after closing Barrington Town Beach due to high bacteria levels, the Rhode Island Department of Health recommended reopening the beach. The department frequently tests water quality at Rhode Island beaches and closures could change on a daily basis throughout the summer.

In Rhode Island, high bacteria levels and beach closures are usually caused by rain. High amounts of precipitation causes increased runoff from sewers and roads, which increases the amount of bacteria in the water.

On Friday, the bacteria levels in the water were within acceptable levels, so the department said it was safe to be reopened.
