Barrington Town Council Expands Plastic Ban
Barrington's plastic bag ordinance has been expanded to include styrofoam, utensils, straws and other forms of single-use packaging.

BARRINGTON, R.I. -- The Barrington Town Council voted Monday to expand the town's single-use plastic bag ban. Under the new ordinance, other forms of single-use plastic, such as straws, utensils and styrofoam food packaging will no longer be allowed.
The ordinance applies to stores, restaurants, and town-owned areas such as beaches and parks.
The banned items can be split into two categories: packaging and food service ware. Any item intended for single use, such as a styrofoam takeout container, is not allowed. Reusable and compostable goods are both allowed and encouraged.
