Barrington's Positive Coronavirus Rate Among RI's Best

Town Manager Jim Cunha said town's positive rate of 2.1 percent is one of six towns in RI that low.

BARRINGTON, RI — Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha credited residents with doing their best to battle the coronavirus crisis in noting the town has one of the six lowest positive test rates in the state since the start of the health emergency.

Cunha said the town is at 2.1 percent — one of five communities in the 2s or less, with only Hopkinton in the 1s.

The daily test rate for the state over the past week — according to the way it measures results — was 1.1 positive.

"Your support in following (Rhode Island Department of Health) guidelines by wearing facemasks and physical distancing is protecting our community," Cunha said in message to the community. "The state has also continued expanding its testing capabilities, testing over 7,000 Rhode Islanders last Thursday alone, to ensure the safety of our community. It is extremely important that we all continue to stay vigilant."

Cunha reminded residents there is a strict limit of 15 people at social gatherings with potential fines of up to $500 for each person at the event in violation.
