Block Island Among Best 2018 Summer Trips: TripAdvisor

BLOCK ISLAND, RI — Block Island this week was again ranked as one of the top summer travel destinations. TripAdvisor included the island on its "10 Hottest U.S. Destinations for Summer 2018." Block Island was ranked No. 3; Mackinac Island in Michigan was ranked No. 1.

Three other New England destinations also made the cut — Bar Harbor, Maine (No. 2), Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts (No. 7), and Nantucket, Massachusetts (No. 10).

TripAdvisor's survey of 3,300 travelers found 87 percent plan on taking a summer vacation, up 6 percent from last year. The Northeast was ranked the most popular region for vacationers.

TripAdvisor wrote of Block Island, "Travelers can take a ferry to bask in the slowed-down world of pristine seashore, wild dunes, and antique lighthouses. Summer 'on the block' is pure old-school New England charm.

The cost of an average week-long trip to Block Island for one person is $2,857, according to TripAdvisor. Nantucket's average cost is $4,872.

TripAdvisor gave shout-outs to the Block Island restaurant Kimberly's and Southeast Lighthouse.
