Coronavirus: Barrington Police To Enforce Stay-At-Home Directives
Barrington Chief said that while the department does not want to issue fines, social distancing violations will not be tolerated.
BARRINGTON, RI — Barrington Police Chief Dino DeCrescenzo said in a letter to the community that, while the department does not want to issue fines for violating the state's social gathering and congregating orders, such actions will not be tolerated during the coronavirus health emergency. All non-essential business have been closed in the state with restaurants open for takeout or delivery only, and non-essential stores allowed to provide only curbside pickup through online sales.
Town playgrounds, basketball courts and tennis courts have been closed. As of Friday, all facilities at Barrington Beach will close as well. Those in public spaces must maintain a social distance of at least six feet between each other at all times.
"We urge all Barrington residents and visitors to follow the (Gov. Gina Raimodo's) directives," Chief DeCrescenzo said. "Every time you leave your home for non-essential purposes, you are putting the health and safety of our first-responders, health care professionals and your neighbors at risk. While we don't want to have to issue fines for non-compliance, we will do so if we witness people in Barrington ignoring those orders."
