Government Has Posted Forfeiture Notice For $190,000 Found In Barrington Woods
Anyone with a claim to the money found last October in the woods behind the Wampanoag Trail has 60 days from June 2 to come forward.

BARRINGTON, RI — The mystery over the $190,000 found in the woods behind the Wampanoag Trail has taken another turn. WPRI-TV reported Monday that the case has been posted on the U.S. government's Forfeiture webpage. The notice explains the government has gone to federal court and filed a forfeiture complaint. That means the legal owner will forfeit the items found Oct. 15, 2016 unless he or she makes a formal claim within 60 days of the notice, which was issued June 2.
The property is described as:
$110,000.00 U.S. Currency (17-DEA-627603) which was seized from Barrington Police Department on October 15, 2016 at 100 Federal Road, located in Barrington, RI; and

$85,000.00 U.S. Currency (17-DEA-627605) which was seized from Unknown on October 15, 2016 at Wooded Area Behind, 1721 Wampanoag Trail, located in Barrington, RI.
According to the story, which the Providence Journal and WPRI-TV originally reported and which Barrington police Chief John LaCross confirmed, some youngsters found a suitcase in the woods last October. The suitcase was full of cash, and the parent turned the money over to the police. That accounted for $110,000. Then the youngsters told police where they had found the suitcase. Barrington police and a Cranston K-9 dog went back to the area and found a second suitcase with the $85,000 inside.
