North Providence Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault
Matthew Moniz, 52, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count each of second- and third-degree sexual assault.
BARRINGTON, RI — A North Providence teacher has been charged with sexual assault, Attorney General Peter Neronha's office reported Tuesday. Matthew Moniz, 52, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count each of second- and third-degree sexual assault.
According to Neronha's office, the reported incidents happened between Feb. 1 and June 30, 2019 and were investigated by the East Providence Police Department. Moniz, a Barrington resident, was indicted last Wednesday. He was arraigned Tuesday and is being held without bail pending his next court appearance.
According to WPRI, Moniz is a teacher in the North Providence school district. The staff directory for Dr. Edward A. Ricci Middle School lists Matthew Moniz as a "mechatronics" instructor.
