A Call for Unity in the Aftermath of Squirrel Hill

"This is a time to come together and rally around those affected by this tragedy and offer our support," the writer says.

By Dorinne L. Albright

As an American, I am deeply saddened by the atrocity carried out this morning at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. As a member of the Jewish faith, I am stunned that such a display of violence has happened here in the US, a land which sheltered us in the aftermath of the Holocaust and has been a place of religious freedom since its inception. This is a time to come together and rally around those affected by this tragedy and offer our support as they piece their lives back together, forever changed by this horror.

Already, it is being politicized by those who care more about pushing an agenda than the lives that were lost today. Please join me in calling for respect to be given to a community that is grieving and for an end to the political arguments already erupting around them.
