Coventry Cracks Down On Recycling Violators
Violators could lose their right to curbside pickup, a fine of $300 or up to 30 days in prison.

COVENTRY, RI — After paying more than $11,000 in fines for rejected recycling loads, the Town of Coventry is stepping up enforcement of curbside cart violations.
A recently adopted town ordinance imposes steep punishments on those who repeatedly put non-recyclable items in their cart. According to the Coventry Public Works Department, there have been 25 rejected loads since January 2019, leading to $11,161.54 in fines.
First-time offenders will receive a letter explaining the violation, followed by a second violation if the same items are again placed in the recycling cart. The third violation will result in the loss of eligibility for curbside pickup, a fine of up to $300 or up to 30 days in prison. The homeowner will be responsible for violations committed by their tenants.
