Coventry HS Class Of 1968 Raises $21k For Scholarship
The first, $2,000 scholarship will be awarded on Scholarship Night in April.
COVENTRY, RI — The Coventry High School Class of 1968 raised more than $21,000 for its new scholarship, offering a deserving senior money to pay for college each year. The scholarship's launch comes ahead of the class's 70th birthday celebration in August.
Fundraising for the scholarship began in September 2019, with a goal of reaching $10,000 by Nov. 15, while four anonymous donors agreed to double this goal. In all, the organization raised more than $21,000, and all funds were invested in the Coventry High School Alumni Association Endowment Fund.
Katherine Hebert, the chairman of the Class of '68's committee, said that the response from classmates was "gratifying."

"What began as a way to contribute to the future has also become a way of honoring the past. We are especially proud to be able to pay tribute to our fellow classmates for their service to our country with this first scholarship," Hebert said.
The scholarship's first, $2,000 recipient will be announced at Coventry High School's Scholarship Night on April 7. This first scholarship presentation will also be a celebration of the class's veterans. Of the 239 graduates of the Class of 1968, more than 40 were involved in the military.
