Coventry Man Barricades Inside House, Threatens 'Suicide By Cop'
Craig Chapman also threatened to shoot family members if officers forced their way inside, police said.

COVENTRY, RI — Coventry police called in the SWAT team Tuesday night after a resident barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to shoot family members, according to police.
Police arrived at the Ramblewood Estates home around 9:10 p.m. and tried to arrest Craig Chapman, 42, who was wanted on domestic disorderly conduct charges from the night before.
According to police, Chapman barricaded himself inside the house and threatened "suicide by cop" and that he would shoot family members also in the house if officers tried to force their way inside. As a precaution, police evacuated neighboring houses, and called in the West Warwick/Coventry SWAT team.

A little before 11:30 p.m., a police dispatcher convinced Chapman to surrender, and he was arrested. Chapman was charged with domestic disorderly conduct, possession of more than 10 ounces of marijuana and three counts of possession of anabolic steroids, a schedule 3 substance.
