Coventry Man Charged Following Head-On DUI Crash

COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry is facing misdemeanor charges following a crash on Route 138 in Richmond. John Emond, 39, of Darius Lane was charged with driving under the influence (first offense) and refusal to submit to a blood-alcohol test.

The crash happened just before 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday in the 40 block of Route 138 (Kingstown Road). A witness at the scene reported that Emond, who was driving a green Subraru, was weaving back and forth over the center line. After a few minutes, he crossed over the line again, hitting a car driving in the opposite direction head-on.

Following the crash, Emond refused to submit to a breathalyzer test and was brought to the Richmond Police Department, where he was processed and released on summons to appear in Fourth Division District Court.
