Coventry Man Killed In I-295 Crash

SMITHFIELD, RI — A Coventry resident died in a crash on Interstate 295 in Smithfield on Friday afternoon. Jason Denton, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene, Rhode Island State Police said.

The crash happened on I-295 South about a mile north of Exit 12B just before 2:30 p.m. Accoridng to state police, Denton was driving in the third lane when he suddenly veered right, crossing three lanes and after skidding down the embankment, hit several trees before coming to a stop. Smithfield firefighters declared Denton dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash has not been determined.
