Coventry Police Warn Against 'Amazon' Spam Calls
Residents are urged not to give out personal information over the phone.
COVENTRY, RI — Police are warning residents not to give out information over the phone after several people reported they received fake calls from scammers pretending to be Amazon. The caller said there is an issue with a "recent order" and that money is owed.
The caller then reportedly directs the person to to call a different number to settle the issue, with the goal of learning the person's personal information and, eventually, stealing their money. Police said to never give out any information over the phone. If you receive a call like this, hang up and call the company directly if you aren't sure if the call is legitimate or not.
