Crews Knock Down Mobile Home Fire In Coventry Monday: Updated

COVENTRY, RI—Crews knocked down a fire Monday morning at a mobile home on Lane B. According to Michael Rapose, assistant deputy chief, the first call came at 10:45 a.m. The engine was one scene in minutes. (It happened to be on a nearby street when the alarm sounded.)

"There was fire on a corner," he said, but most of the fire was confined to the outside of a sunroom alongside the trailer. The trailer itself did not burn.

Some of the fire did go up through the sunroom floor, he said. Crews put it out.

"It was a good stop," he said, given the fact mobile homes can ignite quickly. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the focus is on a leaf blower. The fire started in an area where a electrical cord was plugged in, he said.

One of the residents was using the leaf blower when she saw smoke and called 911. Another resident was inside the trailer and was able to get out safely.

"Everything was on our side," he said.

No one was injured.
