Elderly Woman Rescued From Early-Morning Coventry House Fire

The woman was asleep on the first floor. She was safely escorted out of the house by a Coventry police officer.

COVENTRY, RI — An elderly woman was rescued from a house fire on Read Avenue early Wednesday morning. All other residents of the house were able to safely escape and no one was injured.

According to the Coventry Police Department, the fire was reported around 1:15 a.m. When police and fire arrived at the house, they found that one first-floor resident was not accounted for. Officer Justin Favreau went into the house and found the elderly woman, who was asleep. He woke her up and was able to safely escort her our of the house.

Read Avenue was closed to traffic for a short time as crews worked to extinguish the fire.

The American Red Cross of Rhode Island was called in to help meet the immediate needs of the residents following the fire.

The State Fire Marshal and Coventry Building inspector were called to the scene. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
