Lockdown, SWAT Team Called To Coventry Over The Weekend
Nearby residents were asked to shelter-in-place for several hours.

COVENTRY, RI — Residents of a Coventry neighborhood were asked to shelter-in-place for several hours Saturday evening as a SWAT team was called in to help address an incident involving a man who barricaded himself in his Hill Street home with a rifle.
Police were called to the neighborhood just before 4:30 p.m, asking residents of Hill Street near Howard Avenue and Paulette Drive to stay in their homes. After police were unable to make contact with the man, the Coventry-West Warwick Regional SWAT team was called into to assist the situation. The Office of the State Fire Marshal and bomb squad was notified, as well.
The team entered the house, where they found the man dead. He is believed to have killed himself. The state's medical examiner's office is investigating.
