Parking Ban In Coventry, Trash Delay For Snowstorm

No snow day for students: all Coventry public school students will be learning from home, snow notwithstanding.

COVENTRY, RI — A parking ban has been declared in Coventry ahead of a significant snowstorm expected to hit the state starting Wednesday night. To help keep streets clear for snow removal, trash pickup is canceled for Thursday, as well.

It's bad news for kids looking for a snow day, however. While in-person learning will be canceled, it's not a traditional snow day, since all students will be using distance learning.

Superintendent Craig Levis said that all schools have a "no power plan" to help students who lose power continue to learn. These plans should be posted on school websites.

"We will not 'cancel' school tomorrow," Levis said. "Students are expected to participate in instruction. With that said, we have instructed principals and the staff to build flexibility into the schedules so that families can deal with weather related issues and provide students a schedule that allows them to enjoy the first snowfall of the year."

A town-wide parking ban will go into effect at 6 p.m. and last until noon on Friday.

All residents are asked to remove their trash carts from the street by Wednesday night. No trash will be collected Thursday. A one-day delay will be in effect for the rest of the week, so Thursday's trash will be collected Friday, and Friday's trash on Saturday.
