Recounts Could Change Four Coventy Contests: Board Of Elections
The state board of elections will meet Thursday to consider 14 recount requests.

COVENTRY, RI—Recounts could change the outcome of four Coventry contests. Only nine votes decided the town council district four race, according to unofficial results. Two other races involve seats in the state House of Representatives. Incumbent Republicans Robert Nardolillo (District 28) and Patricia Morgan (District 26) did not seek new terms. Nardolillo had planned a run for U.S. Senate against Sheldon Whitehouse but dropped out when Robert Flanders came forward. Morgan, whose district represented Warwick, West Warwick and Coventry, ran an unsuccessful gubernatorial primary against Cranston Mayor Allan Fung. The candidates in both districts have asked for recounts.
Another contest, the local ballot question, asked voters to change the Financial Town Meeting rules. (It won by 6,221 to 6,108, according to unofficial results.)
The state board of elections has received 14 requests for recounts, according to Miguel J. Nunez, deputy director of elections. The recounts are not automatic. The board will meet Thursday at 3 p.m. to review them.
