WARWICK, RI — Monday marked the beginning of phase two of reopening in Rhode Island and with it, the return of indoor malls. Warwick Mall reopened its doors to the public, with one notable exception: the Newport Creamery restaurant inside will not resume service.

A spokesperson for the mall confirmed Monday afternoon that the restaurant is permanently closed. The Rhode Island-based ice cream and comfort food standby closed because its lease with the mall ended, WJAR reported.

The mall is temporarily open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Entrances are open at the food court, near target and Golf Galaxy, near Target and Foot Locker and at Macy's. Until further notice, the carousel, morning mall walking, lullaby lounge and soft seating are not available.

Several actions have been taken to keep the mall safe for employees and shoppers, including requiring daily symptom checks and masks for employees, placing hand sanitizer stations around the building, cleaning high-touch surfaces frequently and encouraging social distancing. Anyone who has any symptoms of illness is asked to stay home until they are well.

More information is available on the mall's website.
